SENIOR MEDICAL STATISTICIAN

CLINICAL TRIALS AND STATISTICS UNIT
The Clinical Trials and Statistics Unit (ICR-CTSU) initiates, conducts and analyses clinical trials of cancer treatment at the Sutton site of the Institute of Cancer Research which, together with the adjacent Royal Marsden NHS Trust, is one of the world's leading cancer research centres.
This is a new senior post funded by Cancer Research UK. The postholder will contribute to the scientific, managerial and strategic development of the Unit and will potentially be involved in all aspects surrounding the development and statistical component of trials run within ICR-CTSU. S/he will take the Unit lead on the development of new trials in a selected clinical area.
Applicants should have a higher degree (MSc or PhD) in statistics or an allied subject. They will need at least 5 to 10 years experience as a medical statistician working in the field of clinical trials together with project management experience and excellent interpersonal and management skills.
Appointment to this position will be on a Fixed Term Contract for 5 years in the first instance, with salary from £31700 to £37500 pa inclusive.

MEDICAL STATISTICIAN

EPIDEMIOLOGY AND GENETICS TEAM
This post will be responsible for the data management and statistical analysis of a large randomised trial in which 28,000 women attending for a routine cervical smear test are also tested for genital HPV (human papillomavirus) infection. The trial recruitment will be completed in October 2003, and the trial will continue for a further 4 years. There would also be involvement in various other epidemiological studies of HPV infection, cervical cancer and cervical screening that are being conducted in the Section of Epidemiology.
Applicants should ideally hold a postgraduate qualification in statistics and have some experience of medical statistics although less experienced/qualified candidates keen to develop a career in epidemiology will be considered.
Appointment to this position will be on a Fixed Term Contract for 3 years in the first instance, with starting salary up to £30,500 pa inclusive.
