MEDICAL STATISTICIAN
£18,265- £27,339 per annum
A vacancy exists within the statistics team in the Department of Public
Health. The Department of Public Health undertakes research in
epidemiology, public health and health services research. In addition to
supporting departmental projects the statistics team has input to
collaborative projects within the Institute of Applied Health Sciences.
Currently members of the statistics team are involved in epidemiological
research, randomised controlled trials and systematic reviews in areas such
as reproductive health; environmental medicine; orthopaedic medicine; renal
disease; obesity; health promotion; genetic counselling and cardiovascular
disease.
You will be expected to undertake applied and collaborative research, assist
in the teaching and organisation of undergraduate and postgraduate courses
and, as part of a team, provide a statistical service to staff and students
in the Medical Faculty. You will also be encouraged to develop
methodological research. Current methodological interests of the statistics
team include quality of life; cluster randomised trials; recall bias and
minimisation techniques.
There are currently 6 statisticians in the Department of Public Health and a
total of 14 statisticians working in the Institute of Applied Health
Sciences.
You will have a degree in statistics or a closely related discipline.
Experience of research, teaching or consultancy would be desirable.
This post is available for 3 years in the first instance and there would be
an opportunity to register for a higher degree.
