University Of Oxford
Department Of Social Policy And Social Work
Social Disadvantage Research Centre
Research Officer
GRADE RS1A: Salary £18,265-£27,339
Applications are invited from a quantitative researcher to work on a number of projects including the evaluation of area based initiatives such as the New Deal for Communities, welfare dynamics, and the measurement of poverty and social exclusion. The post will be strongly focused on the UK but may entail work on South Africa. The work is likely to include managing and analysing large datasets and small area statistics; it would therefore be desirable if the candidate had experience in these areas. The position would suit applicants with a background in Social Policy, Economics, Sociology or Geography.
The post will be based in the Social Disadvantage Research Centre within the Department of Social Policy and Social Work. The centre runs a major programme of research into issues related to poverty and social exclusion.
The post will be for one year in the first instance.
Applications for the post (cv and letter, two examples of published work if available and names and addresses of three referees, one of whom should be a current or recent employer) should be submitted by 27th June 2003 to Chris Dibben, Deputy Director of SDRC, Department of Social Policy and Social Work, University of Oxford, Barnett House, Wellington Square, Oxford OX1 2ER. Applicants should state when they would be able to take up the post, if appointed. Further particulars are available from the Department Administrator (telephone 01865-270325) or from the Departmental website on http://www.apsoc.ox.ac.uk.
