Statistical Genetic Analyst
(Harlow, Essex)
You should have an MSc or PhD in statistical genetics, genetic epidemiology
or a related field with an interest in the numerical analysis of complex
disease in humans.
Job Details:
GlaxoSmithKline is committed to making a significant investment into
genetic research for the drug discovery process. A key element of this
approach is centred on the field of statistical genetics, where we have a
dynamic and expanding team of scientists. They are internationally
recognised for their work, and have a strong record of publication in
quality journals.
Continued research in this area means we have a number of vacancies for
statistical geneticists to join our team. Their work covers all disease
areas and ranges from study design to the identification of disease
susceptibility genes and pharmacogenetics. These posts are based in the UK,
although we do also have vacancies in the US.
Depending on your area of expertise, responsibilities may include the
development, extension and implementation of statistical genetic analysis
methods, or the application of statistical genetic analysis methods to
identify disease susceptibility genes using population and pedigree data
and markers associated with efficacy and safety in clinical trials.
You could also be involved in consulting with scientists in research and
clinical disciplines on methodological issues pertaining to the analysis
and interpretation of genetic data, providing statistical genetics
expertise for planning studies and interpreting genetic data for research
genetics and clinical genetic projects.
Essential Requirements:
· Ideally you should have an MSc or PhD in statistical genetics,
genetic epidemiology or a related field with an interest in the numerical
analysis of complex disease in humans.
· We are particularly keen to meet those with working experience of
the UNIX file system, at least one programming language (C, C++, Fortran
etc), genetic analysis software and a statistical package such as SAS,
Splus or SPSS.
· It is important too that you can demonstrate the ability to manage
interdisciplinary projects and work in a team environment, as there will be
regular contact with other departments in the UK and colleagues in the US.
· We are keen to maintain our reputation for outstanding research
work in this field, and you'll be encouraged to develop relationships with
academic groups and other leaders in the field.
