IMPERIAL COLLEGE LONDON
Division of Primary Care & Population Health Sciences
Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology
Research Statistician
Applications are invited for a research statistician to work in the
Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology (DIDE) based at St. Mary's
Campus of Imperial College London. The department undertakes
interdisciplinary research on infectious diseases and offers excellent
research facilities and a friendly, intellectually stimulating working
environment. The post-holder will work on an HIV research project which is a
collaboration between staff in the department and colleagues at Abbott
Laboratories, Chicago. He/she will be responsible for the statistical
analyses of observational HIV patient data. Important and previously
unanswered scientific questions can be posed using these data due to the
large size of the database (which is frequently updated). Areas for
investigation include the description of patient populations and patterns of
antiretroviral (ARV) use, the effectiveness of different treatment regimens
and sequences of regimens, tolerability of and adherence to regimens and the
development of drug resistance. The post-holder will work closely with other
members of the team to maintain the database, develop novel statistical
methods and use them and existing methodology to explore these areas. He/she
will be expected to attend meetings with colleagues from Abbott
Laboratories, present his/her work at national and international conferences
and publish research findings in leading HIV/AIDS or scientific journals.
There will also be opportunities to spend time working with the team at
Abbott Laboratories in Chicago.
Candidates must have a strong background (at PhD or MSc level) in one or
more of the following: statistics, epidemiology, mathematics or a related
quantitative discipline. Research experience in statistical analyses, a
working knowledge of SAS and a strong interest in infectious diseases are
also required. Experience with large and complex databases is desirable.
Applicants should be able to work independently and as part of a
multidisciplinary team.
The post is for up to two years with a possible extension to three years and
the appointment will be to the RA1A or RAII scale according to experience.
