Statistician - NHS - Bristol
The Research and Development Support Unit (RDSU) within North Bristol NHS
Trust provides high quality statistical and analytical support to a wide
range of research activities undertaken by health professionals across the
North Bristol area.
The unit is currently seeking to appoint a statistician with responsibility
for providing statistical support for research projects in primary care
(General Practice/Community Care). The postholder will also be involved in
supporting other types of health research (e.g. hospital based clinical
trials), and will also contribute to the RDSU's ongoing training programmes
for health professionals. The RDSU supports a very diverse range of
research work, and the successful applicant will need to be able to
demonstrate a wide knowledge of statistical methods and their applications
in a variety of settings.
The successful candidate will possess;
A first degree with a major statistical component
At least two years experience working as a statistician
Competence in using a major statistical package (e.g. SAS, Stata, SPSS)
Ability to work independently and use initiative
Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
A postgraduate qualification, experience of working in an NHS/research
environment, and experience in designing and planning research projects
would also be desirable.
The salary scale for the post is Clinical Scientist B Grade 11-13 (£23,374
- £25,282) and is initially funded until March 2005 with a possibility of
extension beyond this date.
