Two Research Fellow/Lecturer Posts in Medical Statistics in the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Unit (Ref: RH5)
The Infectious Disease Epidemiology Unit has vacancies for two medical statisticians to work on the design and analysis of research studies in developing countries. The main areas of work include tuberculosis in countries with severe HIV/AIDS epidemics and malaria in sub-Saharan Africa, but the successful candidates will have opportunities to work on other diseases of major importance in developing countries, in which the Unit has an active programme of epidemiological research.
The persons appointed will contribute to the design and organisation of new field studies, the statistical analysis of results and the preparation of research findings for publication. Based in London, periodic visits to field sites in developing countries will be necessary. Encouragement will be given to pursue methodological research arising from the Unit's activities and to contribute to the School's teaching programme.
We are looking for applicants with a postgraduate qualification in statistics, and the ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary scientific team. Experience in the use of personal computers for data analysis is essential. An interest in epidemiology and in developing countries, and some practical experience in medical statistics would be an advantage.
The appointments will be for 2 years in the first instance, and will be made on the School's Research Fellow or Lecturer scales, according to qualifications and experience. (One post will be in the salary range of £20,982 - £36,395 and the other post in the salary range of £20,982 - £31, 227).
