1. Position Summary
The Senior Lecturer (Biostatistics) will play a key role in the development of
biostatistics teaching and research within the School of Population Health. The
appointee will establish a research program in biostatistics and epidemiology,
and contribute to the development and delivery of teaching in biostatistics,
quantitative aspects of epidemiology and health research generally.
In the past, the Epidemiology and Biostatistics Unit has functioned as the
teaching unit for the Masters of Public Health and Graduate Diploma in
Epidemiology and Biostatistics. With the formation of the new Department of
Public Health and the incorporation of several new Centres and Units described
above, the role and function of the Unit is changing. Substantially greater
emphasis is now placed on epidemiologic research and the postgraduate
programs have been considerably expanded. The MPH program has been
restructured and several new subjects have been introduced. A significant
contribution is also made to the University-wide Master of the Environment
degree. A new suite of courses in biostatistics centred on the Master of
Biostatistics has been developed by Professor John Carlin as part of the
Biostatistics Collaboration of Australia effort. A new Master of Clinical
Research
course is being developed with major components in epidemiology, biostatistics
and clinical trials methods.
Growing areas of the EBU’s research effort are in the epidemiology of
nosocomial infections, genetic and molecular epidemiology, and the
epidemiology of asthma. There are currently 6 academic staff positions
