STATISTICIAN – Large Primary Care Databases and Health Surveys.
Research Fellow RA1A £20,399-£29,473 (Inclusive of London Weighting)
Full time post until October 2005 in the first instance with renewal
subject to funding. Starting point and grade will be dependent on age,
qualifications and experience.
Applications are invited for the position of Statistician within the
Department of Primary Care and Population Sciences. The post is part of a
new initiative in the Department aimed at establishing a leading research
unit with expertise in using primary care databases and health surveys for
research.. This is a new post and provides an exciting opportunity for a
statistician to develop their research skills in an increasingly important
area and to publish the results of their work. The post holder will have
the opportunity to work on a number of projects related to the epidemiology
and management of acute and chronic diseases in primary care, with support
and supervision from senior academics in the department. The post-holder
will work with several different groups of researchers. Initial work will
include an analysis of the General Practice Research Database in a study of
antibiotic prescribing funded by the Department of Health.
The post holder will work closely with a Data Manager, who will be
responsible for ensuring the preparation and cleaning of data to a standard
that allows easy analysis. You should have a MSc or equivalent degree in a
discipline such as applied statistics or epidemiology and ideally a PhD
(registration for a higher degree will be encouraged if appropriate).
Skills and experience in analysing data from large databases and surveys
are essential, as is a sound knowledge of research methods. Effective
communication and inter-personal skills are also needed.
