The LTSN Maths, Stats & OR Network is introducing a programme of
full-day regional courses and workshops for University staff in Mathematics,
Statistics and OR - The Day Break Programme - with the aims of:
- bringing new research developments into teaching;
- reinforcing basic technical knowledge and skills;
- improving classroom practice and technique.
The first courses will be held in different regions over the period
April to July 2003. Courses so far arranged include the following:
- Risk-Based Decision Analysis with Applications in
Industry, Healthcare, the Environment, etc, Professor S French, 8 April in
Manchester (UMIST).
- Teaching Statistics in Finance Professor A J Lawrance,
29 April at the RSS Offices, London.
- Undergraduate Mathematics Teaching at Research
Frontiers, Professor John Blake, 6 May at the University of Reading
- Teaching Multivariate Analysis: What are Lectures for?
Dr N R J Fieller, 19 May at the University of Sheffield.
- Virtual Learning Environments - Potential and Pitfalls
Dr W Foster, 17 June at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
These will be full-day courses and will carry a nominal fee of £40
including refreshments (coffee, lunch and tea) and course materials. If you
