With the current explosion of information on how genetic factors affect disease,
there is a crucial need to provide systematic reviews of the emerging evidence
in order to inform both research priorities and NHS policy. An exciting
opportunity has arisen for a Biostatistician to join a team undertaking
methodological, empirical and applied research in this area.
The post arises through a collaborative venture between the MRC Biostatistics
Unit and the Cambridge Genetics Knowledge Park. The Cambridge Genetics Knowledge
Park exists to foster collaborations in the field of human genetics, while the
MRC Biostatistics Unit has a high UK and international profile in its aim to
advance medical science by the development and application of statistical
methodology.
We are recruiting a Biostatistician and an Epidemiologist to be part of a team
undertaking evidence synthesis, critical appraisal and methodological
development in genetic epidemiology under the leadership of Dr Julian Higgins.
The Biostatistician will also have the opportunity to pursue research in
meta-analysis of other types of studies, such as clinical trials.
The successful candidate will have a postgraduate qualification (either PhD or
MSc), experience in statistics and an understanding of epidemiology.
The appointment is fixed-term until 31 March 2005, with the possibility of
renewal for a further two years. The salary will be in the range £21K to £28K
p.a. depending on qualifications and experience.
