Uncertainty Analyst in Climate Models
The Southampton Oceanography Centre requires a researcher to look at
methods of evaluating uncertainty in an integrated assessment model of
climate change, as part of its work with the Tyndall Centre for Climate
Change Research. The integrated assessment model includes not only the
physical climate system but also the economic and social systems including
feedbacks. The methods we propose to use involve the use of Bayesian
statistics.
The post would suit both a statistician with an interest in the environment
or an environmental scientist with an interest in statistics. You should
have a degree in a numerate discipline, and a PhD in statistics is
desirable. Previous experience of uncertainty work and knowledge of
Bayesian statistics would be an advantage.
The appointment is initially available for three years and the salary is in
the range of £18,265-£27,339 per annum, on Research grade 1A scale,
dependent on qualifications and experience.
