This vacancy is subject to recruitment from within the local commuting area
of Lyons, France. Candidates are expected to reside within the local
commuting area. No relocation expenses will be met.
POST TO BE FILLED FROM 1 JULY 2003
POST : Assistant (Statistics)
UNIT : Field and Intervention Studies (FIS)
GRADE : LY5
SALARY : Euros 30 134 per annum, net of tax
DUTIES
Under the supervision of the Medical Officer, P4, FIS, post N° 9.8266, the
incumbent will perform the following duties:
1. To monitor acquisition of data from ongoing studies and incorporate them
into the computerized database in a timely fashion. To check completeness
and internal consistency of the data. To maintain clear documentation
describing changes to the database and work pending.
2. To assist in the statistical analysis of cohort, case-control and other
studies. This implies implementing statistical calculations according to
instructions, inspecting computer output, preparing graphs and tables based
on the analysis.
3. To assist in the design and implementation of data collection procedures
for epidemiological studies. This implies assistance in the design of
protocols and questionnaires and the establishment of computerized
facilities for data storage and management.
4. To receive, organize and maintain a collection of biological specimens
from different epidemiological studies, and to maintain a computerized
database to track the specimens.
5. To assist in the maintenance of computing facilities, including
management of anti-virus software. To provide assistance on computing
matters to visiting scientists.
6. Other related duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
EDUCATION Graduation from a secondary school with scientific
orientation or
AND SKILLS : equivalent, and subsequent computing and statistical training
and possession of a diploma in statistics and/or computing techniques (DUT
or equivalent).
Knowledge of database management in the context of epidemiological studies.
Knowledge of basic statistical analysis and programming. Ability to
maintain clear documentation. Ability to carry out statistical calculations
in SAS and other common statistical packages. Ability to learn new
statistical or database management packages and to otherwise adapt to a
rapidly changing computing environment.
EXPERIENCE : At least 5 years’ progressively responsible experience,
preferably including 3 years’ experience in WHO/IARC, in the fields of
statistical analysis and data management.
LANGUAGES : Excellent knowledge of English or French with a good working
knowledge of the other.
