This two-week course will introduce the basic concepts and methods for
modelling infectious disease spread and control and will present new
developments in the form of case-studies. There will opportunities for the
participants to explore the techniques for themselves during closely
supervised projects.
The course is aimed at public health professionals, policy makers, national
and international health organisations, medical and vetinarary researchers,

The course includes 24 lectures, 6 mini-projects and 2 two-day projects
(applicants can suggest their own projects). Bookable time will be set aside
for tutorials with staff members. The course will be held in a dedicated
facility in the department.
Lecturers include:
Professor Roy Anderson FRS - Head of department
Dr Daren Austin - Hospital-acquired infections
Dr Maria-Gloria Basanez - Vector-borne diseases
Professor Christl Donnelly - Statistical epidemiology
Professor Neil Ferguson OBE - Mathematical epidemiology
Dr Christophe Fraser - Mathematical epidemiology
Professor Geoff Garnett - Sexually transmitted diseases
Dr Azra Ghani - Statistical epidemiology
Dr Nick Grassly - HIV/AIDS
Dr Edwin Michael - Macroparasite epimdemiology
The course fee is £1500 (GBP) for applications received before the 15th
August, and includes course materials and lunches, but not accomodation.
