Dear Colleague
This message is to inform you of a short course in
Molecular Epidemiology; biomarkers of exposure,
susceptibility & disease
that will be held at the University of Leeds, July 7th to 11th 2003.
The course is aimed at anyone with an interest in the integration of
biomarkers into epidemiological research and will be taught by a
faculty of researchers working in this field at Leeds.
Content will include lectures on:
- Current challenges in epidemiology (Eve Roman)
- An overview of biomarkers and how they fit into epidemiologic
study design (Chris Wild & David Forman)
- Genetic Epidemiology (Jenny Barrett)
- Biomarkers of exposure, susceptibility & effect (Mike Routledge
and Chris Wild)
- Case study examples from the fields of cancer and cardiovascular
disease (Chris Wild & Andrew Catto)
- Practical issues involved in using biomarkers & ethical issues
(Graham Law & Andrew Catto)
- Emerging technologies (Laura Hardie)
There will also be small group tutorials on genetic databases and
mutation spectra and interactive group scenario work based around
designing a molecular epidemiology study (with guidance from
tutors). This will include advice from members of the Biostatistics
Unit on statistical issues relating to such studies.
Registration as a non-industrial academic/researcher costs £375,
which includes lunches but does not include accommodation.
Some rooms at Fairbairn House, where the course is located, have
been reserved at an additional cost of £200 for the duration of the
course.
Please contact me for the registration form, or if you have any
questions about the course.
best regards
