The University College of the Fraser Valley invites applications for a fulltime faculty position in Statistics, with the anticipated start date August 1, 2003. The University College of the Fraser Valley has provided innovative and comprehensive education programs for over twenty five years. As an undergraduate degree granting institution currently enrolling over 7000 students, the focus at the university college is on teaching excellence. Recognizing scholarship as integral to educational excellence, UCFV faculty maintain an active research program. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers a full range of undergraduate mathematics and statistics courses, and offers degrees in mathematics/statistics. UCFV statistics instructors teach six courses ranging from first to fourth year annually. Small class sizes (no more than thirty six students), and a pleasant, collegial environment are hallmarks of teaching at UCFV. The university college supports scholarship through course releases for research, as well as a sabbatical very seven years. In addition, twenty days of professional development time is provided each spring prior to the start of the annual forty day faculty vacation period. The location of the University College in the scenic Fraser Valley of British Columbia offers easy access to mountain, lake and ocean recreation, a moderate climate and an approximate one hour drive to Vancouver. The current salary range for UCFV faculty is $48,000 to $73,000, with faculty moving up one level on the ten step scale annually. Both qualifications and experience are considered in arriving at the initial placement on the scale. The successful candidate will have experience in the application of statistics (e.g. biostatistics, industrial statistics or business statistics.) While a PhD is preferred, a candidates with a Master's degree in Statistics, combined with extensive experience applicable to the development and teaching of upper-level courses will be considered. Candidates must have an outstanding ability to teach and communicate effectively to undergraduates (especially at the lower levels), a commitment to building our degree-level offerings, and a demonstrated and on-going interest in research and other scholarly activities. Examples of innovative approaches to teaching and to course and program design are an asset.
