DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall guidance of the Director and the general supervision of
the Chief, Basic Food and Agriculture Statistics Service will be responsible
for the planning, organizing, coordinating, supervising the work programme
of the Production and Trade Group. Specifically will:
* organize, coordinate and supervise the compilation and processing of food
and agricultural statistics, particularly those related to production and
trade;
* coordinate and supervise the updating of the trade flows by origin and
destination and international agricultural merchandise trade matrices,
including their dissemination;
* supervise the computation of the international food and agricultural
production indexes as well as the international food and agricultural trade
index numbers;
* plan and supervise the preparation and conduct of international meetings,
associate working groups, workshops; and represent FAO at
inter-governmental and inter-agency meetings, particularly those concerned
with the agricultural production, and international agricultural
merchandise trade;
* provide advisory services to member countries and other international
statistics offices on harmonization of food and agricultural statistics;
* develop comprehensive training programmes and lead or participate in
training activities for the improvement of the national data series;
* prepare and edit major technical papers for discussion and publication;
* provide leadership, coordination and supervision of the staff in the
Group;
* perform other related duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:
* Advanced University Degree in Statistics, Economics or a related field.
* Ten years of professional experience in national or international
statistical organizations including experience in food and agricultural
statistics. Experience in data processing and management of large
statistical databases.
* Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of
one of the other two languages.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:
* Extent of experience in the compilation and processing of agricultural
production and trade statistics.
* Extent of knowledge of international classifications of food and
agricultural commodities.
* Relevance of experience in the calculation of index numbers and analysis
of time-series.
* Relevance of experience in the statistical aspects of trade flows by
origin and destination and construction of trade matrices, including their
dissemination.
* Extent of knowledge of major agricultural databases.
* Ability to analyze complex issues and prepare technical documents.
RENUMERATION
Level P-5 carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for
post adjustment) from US$ 88,481 to US$ 104,274 (without dependants) and
from US$ 95,244 to US$ 113,154 (with dependants).
