EUROPEAN COLLABORATIVE STUDY ON HIV INFECTED WOMEN AND THEIR CHILDREN

Statistician / Epidemiologist
Applications are invited for a three-year statistician/epidemiologist post
in the
Centre for Paediatric Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Institute of
Child Health,
University College London.
The postholder will work with the co-ordinators of the European
Collaborative Study,
a prospective cohort study funded by the Medical Research Council and the
European Union.
The overall aims of the project are to assess the health of infected women
during pregnancy and
after delivery, to document the rate of mother-to-child transmission (MTCT)
of HIV across Europe,
to determine benefits and potential risks of interventions to prevent MTCT
and to determine
the health and social circumstances of infected and uninfected children.
Prospective data have been
collected on over 4200 mother-child pairs from 10 countries, and data
collection is on-going.
Candidates should have a postgraduate qualification (e.g. an MSc in
Epidemiology, Applied Statistics)
and ideally a higher degree (PhD). The postholder will be responsible for
both day-to-day analyses
and specific analyses of the study data, and will be expected to develop
his or her own interests
within the project. The successful candidate will be expected to present
the results of their work
at annual ECS meetings, and at national or international scientific
meetings, as appropriate.
The postholder will be working as part of the ECS coordinating team with
the support of colleagues
within the Centre, both statisticians and epidemiologists, many of whom
work in the area of paediatric
infectious disease.
The post is available from 1 February 2004 for 3 years. The post is on the
RA1A scale
(£21,125 - £25,541 per annum - pay scales currently under review) depending
on experience
plus London Weighting of £2,134 per annum. Interested candidates are
