JOB:- Senior Statistician
Welsh Cancer Intelligence & Surveillance Unit (WCISU)
Based in the centre of Cardiff - this is a Permanent Post within the
Velindre NHS Trust (non clinical scientist).
WCISU is one of 12 population based cancer intelligence units within the UK
that provide a cancer registration and cancer information service. We
provide this service for the Welsh Assembly Government and NHS Wales,
including clinicians, public health and service planners. We contribute to
European and Worldwide registration. The work can succinctly be described as
population based cancer research, but we are also involved in analysis of
suspected cancer clusters and other GIS work. The statistical team provides
an information and request service as well as statistical collaboration for
research and audit
We are seeking a replacement for our Senior Statistician who has moved for
family reasons elsewhere in the UK. You should be trained to postgraduate
level in statistics or biostatistics (at least to master's level). We expect
that you have at least 2, preferably 5 or more, years experience working as
a statistician in a research or health service environment, managing your
projects and directing the work of others. Ideally you will have a solid
background in medical statistics and epidemiology with a good track record
of research and publication.
It is expected that you will be well versed in modern statistical software,
including advanced modelling, able to carry out computer intensive work if
required, and competent to supervise and direct such work. Ideally you will
be experienced with the use of STATA for epidemiological analysis and
medical statistics.
Experience with statistical consultancy and research collaboration with
clients, such as clinical consultants or other professionals, would be an
advantage in this post.
You will lead a small team of statisticians and contribute to the
multi-disciplinary work of the Unit and the wider cancer agenda in Wales.
Salary:- somewhere in the range 27k-35k depending on qualifications and
experience
