Dear all,
I am writing to seek advice and information on the
statistical programming labour market. At the moment I
am in search of further my career development and I
have find that it is difficult to find statistical
programming / development work around. You opinion on
where to start will be appreciated.
Over the last two years I have been working in a
market research environment as a (software) solution
developer. I have been studying statistics when I was
in university and I have keen interest in programming
automated statistical processes. So far I have done
multiple regression, ANOVA and various distributions.
I intended to further look into and programme
classification and discriminate analysis in the near
future. So far my company has used part of my work
(multiple regression, ANOVA) in the development of the
on-line forecasting system.
Recently I have also started my part time MSc with
London University in statistics and operational
research.
In order to complement my study, I would like to find
a new job, but after months of trying to find a
computational statistician job, I find the existing
market cater for either solution developer or
statistician, but not necessary the interbred of both
disciplines.
Anyone have any idea where I should start looking? So
far I have been looking into actuarial and insurance
industry, am I looking at the wrong place?
Many thanks in advance.
JL
