Evolution of team performance in county championship cricket
Using an assortment of frequentist techniques, team performance
in the County Cricket Championship final table (1946-99) is
modelled as a Markov Chain. The dependency of transition
probabilities on team and time are investigated, teams are
clustered according to performance and a change in behaviour
from the late 1960's is found. A simple Bayesian approach
leads to similar conclusions.
All welcome.
