you might be interested to hear that John Simpson (liberator of Kabul) on
behalf of the BBC did follow up one of these. He phoned and was invited
by a "Nigerian accent" to go to Madrid, where we was taken to a shabby
office of the type "rented by the hour or the day". When he asked for
evidence that the prize actually existed, the person "appeared to phone
for reinforcements". Simpson made his excuses and left, *without* paying
the "deposit".
