The course aims to introduce the basic statistical concepts and methods
commonly used in medical and public health research.
'Basic Statistics' is intended for students who require a basic knowledge
of the common statistical methods used in medical research. Previous
computing experience is not required but students wishing to take part in
the optional data analysis session should have a basic knowledge of Stata,
as provided by the Introduction to Stata course.
Topics to be covered include: types and presentation of data; sampling
variation, estimation and hypothesis testing; comparison of means;
comparison of proportions; principles of correlation and regression
analysis; sample size calculation; non-parametric methods.
