***What Sample Size Do I Need?***
8 October
This is a common problem and should be given due consideration in any research proposal, as an inadequate sample size invariably leads to wasted resources. This course aims to give a practical introduction to sample size determination in the context of some commonly used significance tests.
Examples from a scientific background will be used to highlight the problems associated with sample size determination, and potential solutions suggested.
***Regression Analysis: A Hands-on Approach***
8 October
Regression is a powerful technique for studying relationships between quantitative variables. Summarising relationships by the most appropriate equation (modelling) is very quick when using a statistical package. It is also easy to progress from basic models to more complex situations, such as comparison of regressions.
This course is a combination of lectures and computer-based practicals, whereby theory is firmly placed into practice.
