WALLENBERG CONSORTIUM NORTH IN SWEDEN
2 YEAR POSITIONS IN BIOINFORMATICS/BIOSTATISTICS
Wallenberg Consortium North (WCN) for functional genomics in Sweden
(http://wcn.ntech.se <http://wcn.ntech.se/> ) has launched a special
initiative in bioinformatics and biostatistics for the years 2003-2005.
The new bioinformatics platform will provide service and technology
development related to WCN core facilities and research programs, with
focus on SNP genotyping and sequencing, transcript profiling, proteomics
and biobanking.
The WCN bioinformatics platform invites applications for the following
positions:
1) Systems development and programming: Focus on systems for storage,
retrieval and transfer of information related to biobanking of samples,
DNA, phenotype and genotype data. Ref Nr BI01.
2) Applied bioinformatics: Focus on the coordination and development
of
informatics tools for data management and data mining of complex data
structures, including gene expression data. Ref Nr BI02.
3) Design and analysis of studies for mapping genes of complex
traits.
Focus on study design and model and algorithm development for mapping
and for elucidating actions and interaction of genes, lifestyle and
environmental factors. Ref nr BI03.
4) Design and analysis of micro-array gene expression experiments.
Focus
on experimental design, classification, prediction and identification of
regulatory elements, modules and networks. Ref nr BI04.
5) Proteomics. Focus on bioinformatics methods for functional and
structural predictions on the proteome level. Ref nr BI05.
The successful applicant is expected to hold an academic degree at the
Master, PhD or Senior Scientist level. Up to fifty percent of the effort
involves supervision and coordination of activities related to WCN
platforms and projects, with the remaining time allocated to independent
research and methods development. An application involving graduate
student work should be made by the responsible supervisor. The
successful applicant will be affiliated with a WCN node (cf
wcn.ntech.se). A preferred university and department may be indicated in
the application.
The positions are funded for two years. The application should refer to
one of the positions and include (1) description of previous work (2)
ambitions for the projected two year period (max 2 pages) (3) CV (4)
list of publications and (5) names and addresses of two reference
persons. Applications will be evaluated by independent experts.
Applications should be addressed to Dr Filippa Kull, WCN, Dep. of
Clinical Neuroscience, CMM L8:01, Karolinska Sjukhuset, S-171 76
Stockholm, Sweden, email [log in to unmask], phone +46 8 517 732 81
and arrive no later than October 3, 2003.
Questions about the positions should be directed to the WCN
bioinformatics platform coordinator Professor Juni Palmgren, Dept of
Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Karolinska Institutet,
Stockholm, email [log in to unmask], phone +46 8 5241620 or to the
other members of the bioinformatics platform reference group Professor
Gunnar v Heijne, Stockholm Bioinformatics Center, Stockholm University,
