POSTDOCTORAL RA IN STATISTICS/SCIENTIFIC COMPUTING
UNIVERSITY OF WARWICK
Ref 2/2R/03
A postdoctoral research position is available in the Department
of Statistics and the Centre for Scientific Computing. The EPSRC
funded position is available for 30 months from 1 December or from a
date to be agreed.
The research project is on "Efficient Markov Chain Monte Carlo
for models in stochastic geometry". This project is about how
to improve Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods for high level
Bayesian analysis of spatial and image data. Prior models for this
data usually come from stochastic geometry, that is they are
probabilistic models that describe random geometric
pattern. While inference in this context is often only possible with
the help of MCMC, the efficiency of these methods can be a bottleneck.
In this project we will develop approaches that speed
up MCMC methods for spatial and imaging data.
You should have, or expect to obtain, a PhD in Statistics,
Computer Science or a related area. Good programming skills and
experience in any one of the following areas would be an advantage:
Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods, spatial statistics, image
analysis, stochastic geometry, Bayesian statistics.
The salary will be on Research grade 1A scale: £ 22191pa (pay award
pending).
