Dear all,
I would appreciate some advice regarding the calculation of confidence
intervals.
I have a study area that contains 365 km of rivers. I surveyed 51 random
stretches of these rivers, each 500m long (i.e. 25.5 km of rivers in total).
Within the samples I counted a total of 16 Grey Wagtails (a species of
riverine bird) (4 samples = 2 birds; 8 samples = 1 bird; 39 samples = 0
birds). My question is:
How do I calculate the total population size of Grey Wagtails in the study
area, together with 95% Confidence Intervals?
I understand some simulation may be needed, but I’ve never done this and
would appreciate advice. If you know of any handy little programmes that
could help me and which I could download from the internet, that would be
great.
Thanks very much in advance for any help.
All the best,
Des
