The LTSN Maths, Stats & OR Network is continuing its programme of full-day regional courses and workshops for University staff in Mathematics, Statistics and OR - The Day Break Programme - with the aims of:
- bringing new research developments into teaching;
- reinforcing basic technical knowledge and skills;
- improving classroom practice and technique.
The courses will be held in different regions over the period January to May 2004.
Courses so far arranged include the following:
- Developing Links between Teaching and Research in Mathematics, John Blake & Chris Budd, The University of Birmingham, 28th January.
- Teaching Statistic to Non-mathematicians, Sidney Tyrrell and Neville Hunt, Coventry University, 18th February.
- Teaching OR in Business Courses, Julia Bennell, Sally Brailsford and Stewart Robinson, The University of Southampton, 30th March.
- Teaching Time Series Analysis, Chris Chatfield, RSS Headquarters, London, 14th April.
- Teaching Undergraduate Statistics using 'R', Charles Taylor, University of Leeds, 19th May.
These will be full-day courses and will carry a nominal fee of £45 including refreshments (coffee, lunch and tea) and course materials.
