Food is one of the fastest moving consumer issues in the UK. BSE, GM
foods, food labelling and organic foods are just some of the recent
headline stories. The Food Standards Agency is at the forefront of
protecting public health.
Our Economic and Analytical Division helps us discharge our statutory
obligation to provide evidence-based policy. Statistical briefing and
advice has a critical role to play in helping to develop the Agency's
policy responses to identified risks and public concerns with regard to
food safety and standards.
You will be involved in providing and interpreting statistical information
to underpin FSA policy. You will help acquire, manage, analyse and present
data from a range of sources including those collected directly by the
Agency; become an expert user of software to estimate human intake of
nutrients and exposure to foodborne chemicals; assist in enhancing the
co-ordination and exploitation of information in all areas of FSA activity
such as Consumer Attitude Surveys and National Food Surveys; advise
colleagues on statistical aspects of food trade and industry statistics. A
statistician with a degree in statistics or mathematics, your skills will
include an aptitude for data handling and statistical computing and an
appreciation of the fundamental aspects of analysis and presentation of
results.
