Colleagues,
Happy new year.
I hope you're sticking to your resolutions. Many of you will doubtless be
content with your professional life and count it as a blessing. Some will
have committed to making 2003 a year in which they invigorate their career.
For these colleagues, I happily draw attention to an advert I expect to
appear in this Friday's THES (http://www.thesjobs.co.uk/); Newport, a
member institution of the federal University of Wales, is seeking to
appoint a leader for its quality assurance unit.
This is a great opportunity to invest in a challenging role your experience
as a generalist HE administrator and your experience of staff supervision.
Newport is highly committed to quality and standards, to widening
participation in higher education, and to collaboration across Wales and
overseas. The work of the quality assurance unit is varied, challenging
and immensely important. If you want a role in leading the unit and you
have the initiative, commitment, organisational skills and imagination to
make it work, 2003 might just be about to happen for you. Its time to
trade in your reputation for reliability and consistent achievement to
obtain a post that challenges you and gives you the opportunity for growth.
This post will also give you an international perspective to your
experience as an HE administrator (our QA procedures apply to our provision
in China and Malaysia) and the post-holder will almost certainly be needed
to travel overseas.
Add the many positive features of living in south east Wales (city life and
rural tranquility, culture and built heritage, leisure opportunities in the
mountains and on the coast) and you'll readily appreciate that 2003 will be
brilliant for the successful applicant. With average house prices in the
city of Newport at around £80,000 and education at all levels (including
post-compulsory, as offered here at UWCN) second to none, its a great place
to settle. So, snaffle a THES this Friday and start the ball rolling for
success in 2003.
New year, Newport, new opportunity - how lucky can you get?
