Colleges and their Communities:
How do colleges engage in community-based adult learning either through LEA
contracts or on their own account.
Thursday 16 October, Jurys Inn Hotel, Birmingham
This conference will explore the contribution that FE Colleges are making
to Community Based Adult Learning and models of good practice in planning,
funding and delivery of such work.
Further Education Colleges have a long history in the delivery of community
based adult learning often through contracting arrangements with Local
Education Authorities funded from the Learning and Skills Council’s “Adult
and Community Learning” funding stream.
The ending of the Secretary of State’s funding guarantee to LEAs, the
introduction of Strategic Area Reviews and the new arrangements for adult
education for personal development described in the Skills Strategy, make
this an appropriate time for reviewing college delivery of adult learning
in communities. Best practice can help in developing models to take forward
in the new funding and planning context established by the Skills Strategy
and Success for All.
This conference will be of interest to:
· Principals, Heads of Department and practitioners in FE colleges
delivering adult learning through the ACL funding streams
· LEA officers who contract out provision and wish to hear about good
practice in other areas
· LSC staff involved in planning.
