Dear Colleagues,
Just to inform you that the EO Monitoring Project is one of the many
projects that have resulted from you (HEIs) articulating some areas of
responding to EO Legislation, that you have found you needed Good Practice
Guidance with.
You will be informed of the other projects that are being undertaken on your
behalf, in due course, as they come into fruition.
Good Practice Guidance from this project is due to be published by the end
of 2003. This guidance is intended to assist HEIs with all their legislative
and good practice requirements on EO monitoring and how it should inform and
influence institutional functioning that is based on good practice for all.
Price Waterhouse Coopers, the Consultants who have been taken on to do the
work, are keen to ensure that they are looking at the appropriate areas
where HEIs will need assistance the most. I am therefore putting the
attached request to you for any valued contribution that you may want to
make, since you are at the proverbial "chalk face".
Please respond to them directly because I am going to be away from Tuesday
15 July till Monday 11 August.
Thanks for your participation.
Regards
Mannie Kusemamuriwo

Subject: re: themes and issues to address in the EO monitoring good practice
guidance
Dear All
In developing the case studies to be included in the good practice guidance,
we would like some input from you with regard to the priority themes that
the case studies could potentially cover. Based on our discussion with you,
a review of research and good practice we have come up
with a list of potential themes that case studies could reflect. This list
is by no means exhaustive so please feel free to highlight any issues we
have not covered. In addition, can you select what you perceive to be the
top 10 priority areas with regard to introducing good practice in HE.
Developing and implementing sensitive data collection methods
Attracting, recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce
Creating more inclusive environments for international student and staff
Attracting, recruiting and retaining a diverse student base
Dealing with harassment, bullying and discrimination
Developing and implementing an equality and diversity policy
Involving local communities in developing aspects of your equality of
opportunities policies
Introducing diversity awareness and training on dealing with harassment and
bullying
Facilitating the progression of under-represented groups
Preparing for upcoming EU anti-discrimination legislation
Establishing a business case for the introduction of diversity and equality
practices
Complying with UK anti-discrimination legislation
Ensuring suppliers comply with HE diversity and equality guidelines
Understanding how diversity and difference is acknowledged, celebrated and
merited
Defining diversity leadership behaviours and how to inspire cultural change
Supporting balancing work and other areas of life
Any other specific issues that you may want to add which are not covered in
the list as well as to suggest any examples of good practice within HE that
you know about.
Please can you let us have your thoughts on these themes along with your top
10 priority and any suggestions about HEIs who seem to be handling one or
more of these areas well by Thursday 17 July.
Thanks
Kate Griffiths
