ADC-LTSN
Art, Design & Communication - Learning Teaching Support Network
Conflicts and Aspirations -
Mastery within the Fine Art curriculum
Monday 8 March 2004, The Women's Library, London, E1
There are shifting demands on the fine art curriculum at undergraduate and
taught postgraduate levels, as a result of the widening participation
agenda, the need to effectively prepare our students for professional
practice and employment, the development of practice based research, degree
provision and the changing expectations and aspirations of students.
This ADC-LTSN event will be chaired by Jill Journeaux, Chair of NAFAE
(National Association for Fine Art Education). We are also delighted to have
Glynn Williams, Professor of Sculpture and Head of the School of Fine Art at
the Royal College of Art, and Allan Davies, Director of CLTAD (Centre for
Learning & Teaching in Art & Design) at the London Institute, to share their
experiences and positions with us on the day.
Keynote: Professor Glynn Williams, "Making the case for individual mastery"
Presentation: Allan Davies, "Post-graduate assessment through the voice of
the community of practice in fine art", a project conducted in conjunction
with the painting school at the RCA
3 parallel discussions led by Fine Art practitioners will offer participants
the opportunity to discuss within the specific context of fine art issues
such as:
* the practice of fine art in the early 21st century and its
effects on our curriculum
* the impact of the commercial sector, and the regional
funding infrastructure on our course design
* fine art course team aspirations and student expectations
preparation for professional practice
* recognising the demands of teaching with the increasing
numbers of overseas fine art students at both BA and MA levels
This programme subject to confirmation.
