The older (pre 2000 or thereabouts) versions of approved documents are
scanned images of the documents, it appears that only the newer versions
have been created in.pdf format from the word processed files, so you are
stuck with what there is until such time as the 'new' approved document is
published.
On a finer point of detail the 'law' (or requirement) is only sections M1 to
M4 highlighted in green on page 5 - all other content is 'guidance tending
to illustrate compliance with the requirements' (of Building Regulations
only) and is not proscriptive.
