Mark,
The Store problem doesn't just apply to STARJAVA, it applies to any large
shell archive downloaded from the store. And the alternative ftp download
for the tar files is in place, along with the Windows installer
(http://www.starlink.ac.uk/java/#download). They can download the zip/tar
archives of the latest STARJAVA from http://dev.starlink.ac.uk.
I admit that the number of options and URLs for downloading the software is
getting a little much, but basically http://www.starlink.ac.uk/Download/ is
the only place they need to visit to get the stable releases. I will add the
link dev.starlink.ac.uk link to download page when it is complete.
As for the Store html pages, I did unify all the Store Help Pages into one,
but perhaps I should have one huge page for the whole store, which will
force people to read the documentation before downloading. Actually I will
do that!
Steve.

Since starjava, unlike the rest of the USSC, is not platform-specific
it would be a good idea to make (prominently) available some
platform-independent installation method - a zip file (and tar file?)
of the whole lot, as well as the WebStart option. There's not much
to go wrong giving people a zip file, and paranoid people may prefer
it to executing an installation script. I've had something along
these lines available on the treeview web page for some time
(http://www.star.bris.ac.uk/~mbt/treeview/install.html - this does
actually install the whole starjava set).
