Agreed, pointing out useful alternatives is one thing, removing the right
to choose doesn't gain many friends.

OK... I thought you were uncharacteristically quiet. The conversation is
still going on (I think), for some reason it has become necessary to
define GNS_DIR and GKS_DIR to point at the etc directory, I suspect my
advice isn't being followed very closely (about PATHs etc.). We'll get
there yet.
