Chaps,
I recently submitted an item on `future issues' for the VOTable to the
IVOA (the somewhat grandiloquently-named `International Virtual
Observatory Alliance; http://www.ivoa.net/) VOTable e-mail distribution
list. Two of the points that I mentioned include: using AST for
representing WCS info. and mixing XML and binary data (albeit in the
context of VOTable). Anyone interested in these issues might consider
signing up for the list. In particular David B. might want to monitor it
in case any questions are asked about AST; I don't feel competent to
answer any but the simplest. To sign up see URL:
http://www.ivoa.net/forum/index.html
and choose the VOTable forum (second from last in the table). Anyone
really interested in this stuff might also consider a sojourn in
Cambridge:

Personally I'm trying to give it up in favour of, shock horror probe,
actually writing some code. But I don't suppose I'll succeed.
cheers,
Clive.
