We need as much publicity and wider access to Starlink software, so at
least I'm against option 2). If SkySoft takes off and we still are
alive, we can then invest more time ensuring that Starlink software is
"accurately and attractively" presented. We should certainly talk to
the folks behind it at ADASS, express our concerns, and see how they
obtain the information. We we're heard so far may simply reflect some
package web pages being out-of-date, which should be corrected, or they
have only an old USSC which predates the Java tools and even ORAC-DR.
I've had no such e-mail from them, perhaps because CONVERT is so dull it
doesn't have a web page, and the ORAC-DR home page is at JAC. They'll
certainly need CONVERT if people want to mix Starlink applications with
other systems.
It's annoying that the Starlink software isn't on the ESO compendium CD.
We wonder why authors and speakers rarely mention us when listing major
`astroware' systems.
