Dear All,
I've just received several messages out of the blue saying that
various bits of "my" software have been added to "SkySoft"
(www.skysoft.org) (KAPPA, POLPACK, DIPSO...). Do we take this seriously?
One may have at least have wished that they had checked the details first
before making them public. Not only do they have clearly wrong things in
there such as "KAPPA is written in C", but they make statements which may
be politcally sensitive such as stating that POLPACK support is "bug-fixes
only" (where did they get this opinion from?).
Also they have split up all the Starlink packages to make them seem
totally unconnected, rather than an integrated collection. For instance,
there is no mention of Starlink in the description of Portable Figaro
(even the link is to Clive's personal home page, rather than
www.starlink.ac.uk).
Neither do they include the entire software collection (e.g. the IMG
library is in there but not NDF, HDS, AST, etc );
I guess we have 3 options:
1) Take it on board seriously and make sure the Starlink software is
presented accurately and attractively. Could be a serious amount of work
for someone.
2) Get all our stuff deleted from it, on the basis that bad information is
worse than no information, and get them to include a pointer to our WWW
site.
3) Ignore it, and hope it dies a death.
I think I favour 2).
