Perhaps try it now. A freshly checked-out copy of autoastrom now builds
(for me) without invoking ./bootstrap -- that is, just ./configure;make.
I can't think of any way in which the mere presence of the up-to-date
autotools would affect that, but I don't plan to be surprised if someone
squeals.
The ./bootstrap file is not, I think, now redundant, as at the very least
it documents what autotools are used, and allows someone to delete all
the generated files and start again from a known configuration, if they
suspect they're suffering from the promised version-skew.
% cvs -d $starcvs co autoastrom
% cd autoastrom/
% wget http://spiff.rit.edu/match/match-0.7.tar.gz
% ./configure
% make
% mkdir /tmp/norman/aa
% export AUTOASTROM_DIR=/tmp/norman/aa
% make test-install # installs in AUTOASTROM_DIR
% # make sure KAPPA_DIR is defined
% make pretest # pre-installation regression test (t9 is long)
Test t9 fails, but that's because it's not a very good test, I think.
The reported fit is different from the `correct' fit in two cases since
the CRVALs differ by around 10as, with corresponding differences in the
pincushion distortion coefficients, which are supposed to be fitted in
this test. I'm not sure, but I think this is a problem with the way
I'm handing what ASTROM is telling me, and I've been talking to Pat
about this.
That's not the point right now -- ASTROM and autoastrom are not in CVS,
and build with ./configure;make straight out of the box, and `./mk' and
`./mk build' are just shorthands for that.
Back to TimeFrame....
See you,
Norman
