I replied to the UCLancs manager and said that someone from Starlink would
be there. AT the very least I'd like to update them on the state of the
funding.
I think that we do have some users left! And I agree that the availability
of analysis s/w should be of concern to managers. What systems do IDL, IRAF
etc etc run on?

I'm quite sure at least some of them will recognise that there is more to
choosing an operating system than personal taste. Users will not be
happy if they can't run their analysis & reduction software (or their
collaborators software) because the manager has installed some operating
system for the sake of better sysadmin tools. They surely realise they
have got to work within a community where there is a good degree of
interoperability, both for their users benefit and their own.
And I think we still have *some* users left out there who will not be
happy if starlink software is not available!
