Dear Mike,
Regarding cement mixers, the historical way to clean same is to light a good
strong fire in it, and keep it tended for about an hour or so (or as
required). The heat expands the steel, and the cement breaks off - no noise!
So, if you want to grind some ore up for whatever purpose, you only need to
buy an old mixer for next to nothing, clean it, add ore, and then add some
good heavy lumps of round'ish scrap: stir as required!
Shooting a cement mixer would produce some interesting ricochets, and
probably void an insurance policy or two!
Not quite mining history, but a useful tip for numerous purposes.
Regards, Bernard.
