Have any list members, or mining history groups in the UK, been approached
by the Coal Authority regarding theiur Access to Britain's Mining Heritage
project, and asked to complete a questionaire on their holdings of library
material, archives and artefacts relating to all aspects of mining history,
not just coal ?
NAMHO, the National Association of Mining History Organisations, is advising
caution in responding to the questionaire until the motives behind the
project and its relationship to the Authority's statutory responsibilities
are determined. The Association is concerned that public listing of personal
holdings may compromise individuals and groups. The consultation period
offered by the Authority is far too short to provide a considered response.
There is a cut off date of 26 March when they appear to have only
approached potentially interested parties on 6 March and their coverage has
been far from complete.
I hope to provide more information once I have contacted the Coal Authority.
