Hello list,
I've just been reading Benjamin Woolley's 'The Queen's Conjuror - the life
and magic of Dr Dee'. This is a biography of Dr John Dee, the 17th century
scientist/magician and confidante of Elizabeth 1.
Dee was one of the financial backer's of Frobisher's gold mining expedition
to Baffin Island. According to Woolley he was also invoved in running some
mines in Devon leased to him by Lionel Duckett (an MP and lord mayor of
London) on land controled by Sir Walter Raleigh.
Does anyone know which mines these were and how successful Dee was a miner?
John.
