Bernard -
What amounts are you talking about (order of magnitude financially and
volume of documents) ? It would be a real tragedy if such unique material
were to be broken up and disappear into a lot of separate private
collections. Is it worth considering scanning it (like the idea for the
Mining Journal archive) or is there simply too much ? If too much, would it
be possible to identify some of the most 'important' items for scanning -
and put them on a CD and/or on the web ? Finally, any chance of an
application for Millennium Fund support to acquire such documents for the
Cornwall and Devon PRO's, or BGS, or the British Library, as appropriate ?
Lots of questions, no answers, sorry ! (Another thought -- any chance of
sponsorship from one of the big UK-based mining companies - Rio Tinto, Anglo
American, Billiton, Xstrata,... ?)
