The GeoData Institute, University of Southampton, is seeking an
enthusiastic, full-time GIS developer / analyst to support its spatial
information consultancy and research work.
You will have GIS project management and application development
experience. Suitable candidates are likely to have a GIS qualification,
possibly with an environmental background, with postgraduate experience or
qualifications in environmental information management, analysis and
development. Commercial and consultancy experience will be an advantage.
You must be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience in the application
of GIS to commercial needs and have proven experience of ESRI products
(ArcView and ArcGIS) and their development environments. A strong working
knowledge of other GIS systems and database design would be an advantage.
Web GIS development will an advantage (e.g. ArcIMS, MapServer).
You will have good organisational skills, project management and reporting
experience and the role will require extensive liaison with
commercial/consultancy clients, Agency and Local Authorities. You should
have good communication skills and a pragmatic approach to problem solving,
with a strong attention to detail.
You will assist in managing data modelling, data capture activity, and
quality control and will have a key role in the expansion of GIS and data
services within the Institute.
This appointment is offered as a permanent post.
Salary will be in the range £18,265 – £20, 311 on the Other Related Grade 1
scale, depending on qualifications and experience.
