Having watched this debate evolve over time, i have drawn the conclusion
that there are two sides to this situation.
Firstly, whilst i agree that the pay on offer for this particular job was
poor, we all had to start somewhere. I graduated 3 years ago and was luckey
to land a job with a decent wage, however this is not always the case for
alot of people. Earning a high wage was not a prime concern (and any
graduate that expects to walk in to a job just because they have a degree
has alot to learn), getting the experiance was.
Secondly if people are looking to advance their careers then one has to ask
why they are considering a job at £6 per hour? i feel that this wage is
aimed at young people who come in at the bottom and gain valuble experiance
from working 'on the job', and lets face it theres only so much you can
learn from a book!
Whilst i agree with Chris that trying to find a job is difficult i also
believe that if you look hard enough one can be found. I currently work in
the Land Surveying industry, but have a GIS related degree and am activley
seeking to rejoin the GIS world; yet with MSc graduates finding the going
tough what chance a lowly BSc?!?!?
These are just my own thourghts on the situation and no offence is meant
