GIS DEVELOPER
LOCATION: Business Services Division, Forestry Commission, Silvan House,
231 Corstorphine Road, Edinburgh, EH12 7AT
PURPOSE: The successful candidate will join a small GIS development and
support team and be involved in a range of GIS related projects using
primarily ESRI and Oracle products. The team is responsible for developing
standalone GIS based applications as well as contributing towards the
development of larger, integrated corporate systems.
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will have a degree or equivalent
qualification in GIS/Computing or related subject.
EXPERIENCE/ABILITIES: Preferably a minimum of 2 years practical
experience in GIS and/or Systems Development.
Application development using one or more of the following : ArcGIS, Visual
Basic, Oracle (SQL, database, forms or reports), ArcIMS, ArcSDE, Arcview
3.x, Design/development of spatial databases.
SALARY: Starting salary will be in the range £18,000 to £21,670 depending
on qualifications and experience. Further steps to the pay band maximum of
£23,354 can be attained within a relatively short timescale, subject to
satisfactory performance. An additional IT related retention allowance may
be payable on satisfactory completion of a qualifying period.
A non-consolidated annual bonus is available for top performers. The post
attracts Civil Service Conditions of Service and offers a choice of final
salary and stakeholder pension, giving you the flexibility to choose the
pension that suits you.
