One of my colleagues had a problem with the a memory leak using the TRIM
function on SGI about 1-2 years ago. However, I think they reported it to
SGI who I assumed would have fixed it by now.

Subject: long character strings and SGI MIPS compiler
Does anybody on this list have experience working with long
character strings (> 200,000 characters) on the SGI MIPS compiler?
Current compiler version is 7.3.1.2m
I just tried writing a program that did a lot of manipulation
of such character strings (using trim, len, len_trim and string
concatenation "//") functions. I could only get it to work if I wrote
my own functions for the above operations. When I used the built-in
functions, I was plagued by crashes. Everything now seems to be
working, once I replaced all the calls with my own code.
Is this a known compiler "feature"? Is it worth my while
submitting a bug report?
