No, the rules of pure procedures apply and these restrict pointer
assignment: such a component may appear on the lhs of a pointer assignment
only if the RHS is not a 'global object' (my shorthand, see "Fortran 90/95
Explained", Sectoion 6.10, second item iv for the gory details).
